Leveraging Technology to Fight Corruption: KAKI and Center for International Private Enterprise Hosts Tech for Anti-Corruption Roundtable

Jakarta, September 25, 2024 — In a bid to explore innovative ways to tackle corruption, Koalisi Anti Korupsi Indonesia (KAKI) and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) hosted the “Technology for Anti-Corruption” Roundtable. The event brought together experts from the private sector, government, and business associations to discuss how technology can be harnessed to strengthen integrity and fight corruption in Indonesia.

“This is a critical moment for Indonesia,” said KAKI Chairman Erry R. Hardjapamekas in his opening remarks. “Technology can help both the public and private sectors uncover and deter corruption, but its implementation must be strategic and collaborative.”

As the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has experienced rapid digital transformation. While this shift offers substantial growth, it also presents new risks and challenges related to corruption. The roundtable highlighted the opportunities for leveraging technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data analytics to prevent corruption and improve transparency.

Betti S Alisjahbana, IICD Supervisory Board and Information Technology and Management Expert, stressed that technology alone cannot win the fight; it requires both skilled individuals and a culture of integrity to ensure effective and responsible use. She also emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of integrity alongside technological investments. Collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, and civil society are seen as critical to Indonesia’s ongoing anti-corruption reforms. Additionally, capacity building and policy support will play a key role in advancing the nation’s anti-corruption agenda.

This roundtable marks the beginning of ongoing efforts to align Indonesia’s tech sector with its integrity-building objectives, ensuring that both public and private sectors benefit from the integration of cutting-edge technologies in their anti-corruption efforts.
